Day 9: The Fish Bone Saga

Day 9 (March 3, 2007)

So, a couple nights ago, I had the bright idea to put some fish into the mushy drink I now call food. Unfortunately, I missed a bone and it got lodged in my throat. With my teeth wired shut, I couldn't stick my fingers in and dig it out. I also couldn't swallow any clumps of bread or rice to force it down.

It continued to irritate me so I tried many different things. I tried to drink thick liquids. I tried drinking citrus juices. I tried to fashion a Q-tip/bent paper clip contraption to swab the back of my throat. No dice.

Last night, it was the last straw. I gargled with some potent vinegar and swallowed it, which proceeded to burn my throat and cause me to spit it out all over my bathroom mirror. When I went to sleep last night, I not only had itching in my throat, but pain too.

However, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Due to the irritation, the back of my throat secreted loads and loads of mucus and phlegm. It caught the bone and dragged it down into the abyss of my stomach where the acid made short work of it. Take that, fish bone!

So today, my throat remains irritated. But at least it doesn't itch anymore. I've learned my lesson. No more fish!
